THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT

Updated: Oct 28, 2023

As we all arose this morning giving praise to almighty God for being blessed to awaken to another day, conditions may have developed since that awakening that desire to trouble your heart, discourage your spirit and stress your mind. I want to encourage you all that no matter what has or will happen today, you can stand firm and say "Like a tree planted by the water, I shall not be moved!”

In the middle of preparing today’s message this morning I stopped and spoke to our dear Sister and Pastor Hazel who’s encouragement touched my heart as she spoke to me of passages from God’s Word the Lord gave to her this morning as she was in prayer and fasting for one in need of God’s comfort and healing.

I abandoned my intended message because I felt in my spirit that we are all in need of God's comfort today. Though our situations may vary, our oppressor is the same with the same intent which is to discourage and distress us all. And though I speak generally, I believe there is someone in particular who really needs the comfort of God right now. It may be you. If so just close your eyes, concentrate on our loving Savior at this very moment and let His peace, strength, comfort and healing flow into your life. You may even want to listen to the song at the end of this message as you do this.

And for us all, please be blessed by these selected scriptures from God’s Word and may they bring you the soothing and healing comfort only He can provide.

ISAIAH 43

[1] But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine.

[2] When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

[3] For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour…

[4] Since thou wast precious in My sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee…

[5] Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

[6] I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring My sons from far, and My daughters from the ends of the earth;

[7] Even every one that is called by My name: for I have created him for My glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

[10] Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me.

[11] I, even I, am the LORD; and beside Me there is no saviour.

[12] I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.

[13] Yea, before the day was I am He; and there is none that can deliver out of My hand: I will work, and who shall let it?

[14] Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.

[15] I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.

[16] Thus saith the LORD, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters;

[17] Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow.

[18] Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

[19] Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

[20] The beast of the field shall honour Me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen.

[21] This people have I formed for Myself; they shall shew forth My praise.

ISAIAH 40

[28] Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of His understanding.

[29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

[30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

[31] But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

ISAIAH 57

[15] For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

[18] I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

[19] I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.

"Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."

(2 Corinthians 1: 2-4)
